Trace elements and the synthesis of vitamin B12 by Streptomyces olivaceus.

چکیده
Study of the requirement of trace elements for the streptomycetes has often led to contradictory results (Woodruff, 1947; Spilsbury, 1948; Johnstone & Waksman, 1948). This is mostly due to the difficulty in preparing a truly basal medium and also because such requirements vary with the medium employed (Thornberry & Anderson, 1948). The streptomycete Streptomyces olivaceus is one of the few micro-organisms producing significant amounts of vitamin B12 (Hall, Benedict, Wiesen, Smith & Jackson, 1953; Hester & Ward, 1954; Pfeifer, Vojnovich & Heger, 1954). It was therefore thought pertinent to make a comparative study of the effect of supplementation of a synthetic basal medium for S. olivacewu with various trace elements, singly or in combination, on the growth of mycelia and the synthesis of the vitamin.

Effects of Vitamin B12 in Neonates and Young Infants
Vitamin B12 (cobalamin) is an essential coenzyme for nucleic acid synthesis. Animal protein is the major dietary source of vitamin B12. Deficiency of vitamin B12 leads to megaloblastic anemia, degeneration of the brain, spinal cord, peripheral nerves, and abnormalities of epithelial tissues. Two factors are necessary for the cure of megaloblastic anemia: one in food (extrinsic factor) and one i...
متن کاملTrace Minerals Deficiency Diagnosis in Ruminants
Introduction Trace elements are essential in human and animal’s nutrition. They play a major role in health, immunity and reproduction. The production of milk or meat as well as the housing and management conditions of high-performing animals can generate oxidative stress and health troubles in cattle. Some trace elements and vitamins have an anti-oxidative action and increase immunity. The mos...

INTRODUCTION In 19'58 Barker and his associates l 3 recognized a new coenzyme which controlled the conversion of glutamate into ,8-methylaspartate by Clostridium tetanomorph'im. The coenzyme was shown4 to be related to ",-vitamin B12, i.e. contair ing an adenine nucleotide grouping in place of the 5,6-dimethylbe:nziminalole nucleotide of vitamin B12, although similar coenzymes containing b{ nzi...

Spherical-like hydroxyapatite (HA, Ca10(PO4)6(OH)2) particles were prepared by the co-precipitation method in a simulated physiological environment. The effect of calcining temperature, calcining time and the Ca/P ratio of the initial feeding on the morphology and crystallinity of HA were investigated in detail. Interestingly, wh...
